Translation shifts from English to Romanian in literary and general informative texts

    Get PDF
This thesis asks the question of how English present and past participles are translated to Romanian in literary texts, as well as in general informative texts. Excerpts containing present and past participles are extracted from the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book and Wikipedia texts and compared to their equivalents in Romanian. The theoretical background is based on J.C. Catford’s translation shifts classification. The most frequent changes are level shifts (a grammatical distinction in the source language is expressed by lexical means in the target language), class shifts (English participles are translated to different grammatical items - e.g., an English present participle can be translated to a Romanian gerund, a relative clause, or a noun phrase), or unit shifts (changes that, in this case, occur at the phrase level). The aims of the project include differences in shift patterns depending on the genre (a literary text vs. a general informative text), as well as additional observations that concern miscellaneous cases of translation shifts, and differences between optional and obligatory changes

To present strategic options to support the adoption of mental health strengthening policies for university students in the field of health, to be implemented by university institutions. METHODS Rapid review, without period delimitation, with searches carried out from May to June 2020, in 21 sources of bibliographic data, including gray literature. The following keywords were used: mental health, students and university. The selection process prioritized systematic reviews of mental health interventions for university students in health care courses, and also considered other types of review and relevant primary studies. RESULTS Forty-five studies were included: 34 systematic reviews, an evidence synthesis, an overview, a scope review, three narrative reviews, three experience reports and two opinion articles. The evidence from these studies supported the development of four options: 1) to establish and support policies to strengthen the mental health of students in health care courses; 2) to integrate mental health care programs, expand their offer and facilitate access by students; 3) to promote educational programs and communication strategies related to contemporary psychic suffering and its confrontation, so that students can get to know the services and resources and identify strengthening practices; 4) to continuously monitor and assess the mental health needs of students in health care courses. CONCLUSIONS The options are challenging and require universities to establish institutional commissions to implement a policy to strengthen the mental health of university students in the health area, with the ability to recognize the different health needs, including manifestations of psychic suffering ; to integrate the university’s internal actions with each other and with the services of the Unified Health System; to implement and monitor the actions that make up the mental health policy

A series of 3,8-diazabicyclo[3.2.1]octanes substituted either at the 3 position compounds 1) or at the 8 position (compounds 2) by a chlorinated heteroaryl ring were synthesized, as potential analogues of the potent natural analgesic epibatidine. When tested in the hot plate assay, the majority of the compounds showed significant effects, the most interesting being the 3-(6-chloro-3-pyridazinyl)-3,8-diazabicyclo[3.2.1]octane (la). At a subcutaneous dose of 1 mg/kg, 1a induced a significant increase in the pain threshold, its action lasting for about 45 min. 1a also demonstrated good protection at a dose of 5 mg/kg in the mouse abdominal constriction test, while at 20 mg/kg it completely prevented the constrictions in the animals. Administration of naloxone (1 mg/kg ip) did not antagonize its antinociception while mecamylamine (2 mg/kg ip) did, thus suggesting the involvement of the nicotinic system in its action. Binding studies confirmed high affinity for the \u3b1\u3b22 nAChR subtype (K(i) = 4.1\ub10.21 nM). nAChR functional activity studies on three different cell lines showed that 1a was devoid of any activity at the neuromuscular junction. Finally, due to the analogy in their pharmacological profile with that of epibatidine, compounds were compared from a structural and conformational point of view through theoretical calculations and high-field 1H NMR spectroscopy. Results indicate that all of them present one conformation similar to that of epibatidine

To analyze the scientific evidence regarding barriers to the access of people with disabilities to health services. Viscum album L. (Santalaceae), also known as European mistletoe, is a semi-parasitic plant that grows on different host trees. Our group recently demonstrated the antitumoral activity of ethanolic V. album extracts in vitro, depending on the dose and the host tree, V. album ssp abietis from Abies alba being the most active extract. The goal of this work focused on the development of a new topical formulation containing V. album extracts, evaluation of in vitro toxicity and ex vivo skin permeation assays. The Poloxamer 407 hydrogel containing 5% of dry (VA_DEH) or aqueous (VA_AEH) extract presented dermal compatible pH and microbiological stability for 180 days. The hydrogels flow curve presented a non-linear relation, characteristic of non-Newtonian fluids, and the mean viscosity for the VA_DEH and VA_AEH was 372.5 ± 7.78 and 331.0 ± 2.83 Pa.s, respectively, being statistically different (Welch’s t test; p < 0.01). Additionally, WST-1 in vitro assays revealed a dose-dependent toxicity for both formulations and VA_DEH presented a higher activity than the VA_AEH. The promising cytotoxic potential of VA_DEH lead to the ex vivo skin permeation assay with 2.73 ± 0.19 µg/cm(2) of chlorogenic acid, which permeated at 8 h, showing a transdermal potential. These in vitro results support the idea that VA_DEH is a novel promising candidate for mistletoe therapy. Therefore, further in vivo and pre-clinical experiments should be performed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this new dermic delivery system
